How to play Carrom

Bring your attention to one round of Carrom. Clear your nine carrom men after the queen is covered. Look at what changes after your first action. Make your first input carefully and watch the result. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Play a casual Carrom match using the house rules shown here. Tournament penalties and multi-board match scoring are not used.

Read before acting

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Clear your nine carrom men after the queen is covered. Read that aim before choosing your first action. The example below illustrates a decision.

Step by step

  1. White starts; set striker aim and power.
  2. Own-colour pockets earn another shot.
  3. Cover the queen with an own-colour man in the same or next shot.
  4. Striker fouls return one own pocketed man if available.
  5. Finish your colour after a covered queen.

Controls

Touch to aim; sliders set power and angle; striker-position controls and Shoot. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Contact us with the game and device if a control does not respond.

A useful example

Queen and own man in one legal shot cover immediately. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Verify the rule before continuing.

Watch out for this

The last own man returns if the queen remains uncovered. Compare the situation with the worked example. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
